Tournament Rules
Here is an abbreviated list of some basic rules we will be playing by:
COED TEAMS – Every team must have a minimum of 3 female players on the field. One girl can play goalkeeper to count toward the 3 players. In the event a team does not have 3 female players, they may play down a player, but they cannot replace female players with male players.
AGE LIMITS – In order to participate in our tournament, a player must be AT LEAST 16 years of age on the day of the tournament. Due to liability reasons, we cannot make exceptions to this rule.
FIELD SIZE – Fields will be approximately 60 yards long by 40 yards wide. Goalkeeper’s boxes are 12 yards long by 31 yards wide.
HALF LINE RULE – A goal can only be scored if the whole ball is in front of the half line.
TOUCH RULE – No rule will be applied to limit the number of touches a male player can make on the ball (until someone in the tournament decides to “show off”, then next year, we will change it).
INDIRECT KICKS – Except penalties, all free kicks and restarts are considered INDIRECT. If the ball goes out of bounds, play will be restarted with throw-ins.
SLIDING – Slide tackling is allowed, so long as it is not considered dangerous or breaking the normal rules of play.
PENALTY KICKS – Penalties are taken at the top of the goalkeeper’s box. Players cannot touch the ball again until the ball has been touched by another player. All other players must remain behind the half line until the kick is taken.
RED CARDS – Any player who receives a red card CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THE REMAINDER OF THE TOURNAMENT. There are no exceptions to this rule.
FIGHTING – Any teams who participate in a fight, regardless of the number of players from the team who participate, whether they “started it” or not, will be automatically disqualified from the tournament and will forfeit all remaining games. No team fees will be refunded.
DISCIPLINE POINTS - Discipline points are used in to help break ties in points in the standings. Every team accumulates 1 discipline point for every yellow card received and 5 discipline points for every red card received.
ADJUSTED GOAL DIFFERENTIAL – In an effort to keep teams from destroying other teams in terms of score, we use an adjusted goal differential system. In any game a team plays, goal differential cannot be affected by more than 8 goals. For example: Team A beats Team B 15 – 2. While the actual goal differential is +13 for Team A, only +8 will be counted in the standings. The same applies to the losing team.
GROUP STANDINGS – Standings will be kept during group play. Teams will be divided into groups where their standings will be used to determine seeding into the second round of play. 3 Points are awarded to the winning team in each game. 1 Point is awarded to both teams in the event of a tie. 0 Points are awarded to teams who lose in each game. Tiebreakers are as follows: (1)Most Points, (2)Fewest Discipline Points, (3)Head-To-Head Results, (4)Highest Adjusted Goal Differential, (5)Fewest Goals Against, (6)Coin Toss.
CASH PRIZES – The winning team will receive a cash prize of $200. The team who takes second place will receive the knowledge of knowing they didn’t take first. No other cash prizes will be awarded.
GAME BALL – The home team (first one listed on the schedule) is required to provide two (2) game balls. We will not providing ANY game balls for this tournament.
UNIFORMS – In the case of two teams having matching uniform colors, the HOME team will be required to change. Each team will need to have an alternate color to wear in this case.
TEAM ROSTERS/WAIVERS – Each team will be required to hand in a Team Roster, with every team member’s signature. This document doubles as your team’s roster and player waivers. Players will not be allowed to participate if they have not signed their team roster/waiver. Any player that is 16-17 years of age must have a parent/guardian sign the roster. No teams are allowed to “share” players; to clarify, you may only play for one team in the tournament, in all games. Any games in which a player is “dually” rostered will be considered a forfeit.
